Thankful

I should be going to sleep since I need to be up in 4 hours to go shopping, but I could not wrap up the day without saying Happy Thanksgiving and to be thankful.  We've had a great day.  We hosted Mark's family at our home for dinner.  Thanks to an amazing husband it all went smoothly and I think everyone had a great time.  We had seating for 26 people.  And had more than enough incredible food.  And thanks to my mom and all the things borrowed from her house our tables looked great.

This year I'm especially thankful for my kids wonderful school where the 5th Grade performed Shakespeare and Jessica was the Narrator for Romeo and Juliet.

And where the 3rd Grade performed a Thanksgiving Play and Ashley was an amazing Cranberry!

And John got to have an awesome Grandparents day.  Sorry no pictures since I wasn't there!

I'm so grateful for my husband and kids.  They are amazing and I love them so much.
Thankful for my knowledge of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and for the Holy Ghost in my life.
Grateful for the opportunities I have to serve.
Grateful for jobs that provide us money that allow us to purchase the things we need even if we don't always get what we want.
Love our home that provides us shelter and comfort.
And for my friends and neighbors.
Thankful to live in a free country and to all the service men and women that help us keep it free.

I feel so blessed in my life.  I hope all my friends and family had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.

LA Temple Experience

I've received multiple e-mails about the happenings at the LA Temple, but this one really impressed me.  It is amazing to see the hand of the Lord in all things.

This was sent by a person who works at the LA Temple.  What an incredible story!  It is so relieving to hear "our side" of what has been happening the last few weeks...
My dear family, brothers and sisters, friends and leaders:

My heart is overflowing with joy and gratitude to our Heavenly Father for His tender mercies and mighty miracles in our behalf. I just have to share this with you. As most of you know, I am a Temple ordinance worker and work the morning shift in the LA Temple every Saturday. Today, I had the priviledge of translating sister Martz-the new assistant Matron's-message during our devotional.

She started like this "The prophet Joseph Smith said that no unhallowed hand would be able to stop this Work from progressing. These past few weeks when mobs have combined and armies have gathered against the saints, the Lord has protected His house". She went on to say that those, like her, who were inside the Temple when mobs were surrounding it, did not realize how scary and terrifying this looked on TV to the rest of us, because inside the House of the Lord all was calm and there was peace abundant. After Proposition 8 passed, the Temple began receiving threatening calls and mail from those opposing it. They were warned that more than 5000 people would come to the Temple and burn it to the ground, and stop Its work. The first Thursday when the mob came, the new LA Temple President called the Salt Lake City Temple Offices for instructions. He was instructed to call the local police and to insure the safety of those attending the Temple by closing the gates. The assistant Matron said today, that it was a tender mercy from the Lord that the mob chose that Thursday to come since they had only one person coming to receive his own endowment that day, which he received in time to leave before trouble started. The LAPD and the FBI responded quickly to the Temple Presidency's summons and patroled the grounds and kept the mob from entering the same. Most of them had never been there before and expressed their surprise at how beautiful and peaceful all around was. They were invited to come back during the Christmas season to see the lights and they promised they would.

On Thursday, November 13th, sister Campbell, a secretary in the Temple, was opening the mail and upon opening a large manila envelope found inside a smaller one. When she opened this one, a white powder flew all around her desk. She thought this could be related to the demonstrators and feared the worst-ANTRAX. She contacted the President, who in turn called the Salt Lake City Temple office again for instructions. The FBI, the LAPD, and even the SWAT teams were once again in the grounds to investigate, and the Temple once again had to close from around 11:30 AM to 5PM. They closed the gates and were instructed to keep all the people there wherever they were found at the time. Those in the parking lot had to remain in the parking lot. Those entering the Temple had to remain in the first floor and those already upstairs were taken to the Celestial Room.

Then, the miracles began to happen: A brother serving as a recorder that day is a Microbiologist by profession and used to deal with hazardous substances every day. He was the first to say the white powder in the envelope was only talc, and put every one at ease. Then the sister coordinator upstairs was impressed to call upstairs to the sealing area, and said "They said we can't go down but no one said we can't go up, and I have many people in the Celestial room with their ceremonial clothes on ready to work. Could they do some sealings?" As it happened, there were four sealers present that day and they ran four sealing sessions non stop while the Temple was closed.

Downstairs, someone else thought to invite those in the Lobby to do some initiatories, which they promptly did for all those hours too, brothers and sisters alike. Among those waiting in the parking lot there was a large group of young men and women with their leaders who had come to do Baptisms for the dead, and who waited patiently all those hours and decided when the Temple was reopened to go ahead and fulfill their assignment instead of driving back home.

The Temple reopened in time for the 5:30 PM session. The next day when recording the ordinances, they discovered that they had performed 2000 sacred ordinances on Thursday, only one less than the day before when three stakes had been visiting the Temple. Once again the assistant matron reminded us of the words of the prophet Joseph Smith, "No unhallowed hand can stop the Work from progressing...". But, this is not all, a prophecy was fulfilled also. When the new LA Temple President was set apart by President Uchdorft of the First Presidency, he received a blessing and these words were pronounced: " The time has come for the LA Temple to come out of obscurity and become an Ensign for Righteousness to the world under your presidency."

The pictures of the Temple have been shown on TV, newspapers and the internet, not only in this country but worldwide. People of other faiths have called and sent letters to the Temple thanking the Church for defending marriage and protecting the family, and commenting how impressed they are by how beautiful and majestic the Temple looks . One minister of an African American church, who by his own admission had harbored ill feelings against the mormons before said " I am impressed by your integrity and Christ like behavior, and even if I am not ready to consider you my brothers and sisters in Christ, we can be first cousins!". I asked the assistant matron if I could share her comments and she said to go ahead. I can only add my own testimony that I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has the power and authority of God on earth. God Lives and Jesus, His only Begotten Son and our Savior is coming soon to redeem His people. I am grateful to know this and I pray we stand firm, steadfast and immobile while the prophecies of the signs before His Coming are fulfilled. "Be not afraid, only believe" He has said, and also " What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same." I testify that this is true and testify it in the Holy Name of Whom I strive to serve, even Jesus Christ. Be faithful and safe is my humble prayer. Your sister in Christ, Patricia H. Arnazzi

At Last . . . Twilight!!!!

Twilight, the movie, finally was released.  I considered for a moment about going to a midnight release during the early hours of Friday morning, but knew I would be miserable the next day if I attempted that.  So instead a group of us got tickets for the Friday night showing at the Gateway in Salt Lake.  Gotta love reserved seating!  I won't attempt to try and critic it too much.  My Dental Hygienist who is now also my friend, Summer,  who introduced me to the books gave a great review, you can view it here.

There was a group of 12 of us who all met up.  Tonya was nice enough to organize and purchase all our tickets ahead of time.  We went to dinner at a great Italian place, Biaggis first.  Then headed over to the Theater.

About half of our group were all connected because of Pampered Chef.  Here we are all waiting to go into the theater.  We are obviously all Twilight lovers.  But the "mature" women dressed in immodest prom dresses were a little more die hard than us (sorry, no pics of the true crazys)

The movie doesn't begin to cover everything from the book, but I think they did a great job.  It was great driving home with the girls and discussing the differences.  I was really glad we had a 45 minute drive together afterwards.

Saturday I was telling Mark how much I wanted to go see it again and he suggested I get tickets.  He didn't need to tell me twice.  So we hit a Saturday Matinee.  It was even better for me the second time around.  I could just enjoy the movie and not wonder what was and was not in the movie.  And I can't wait for the DVD to come out so I can see it over and over again.

I'm very excited to hear they have confirmed they are moving forward on the second book in the series.  We have another movie to be excited about.  Especially all those Jacob lovers out there!

Breakfast of Champions

I know Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day.  But it is the meal I dread the most.  I enjoy cooking and we all know I love eating.  But I HATE coming up with new ideas for Breakfast.  I feel like I feed my kids the same food over and over again.  And finding a healthy breakfast they will eat is even more challenging.  So here is a list of our family's standard breakfasts:

  • Pancakes
  • Waffles
  • French Toast
  • Cold Cereal (And they get the good stuff and they still don't enjoy it very much)
  • Cinnamon Toast
  • Breakfast Burrito
  • Yogurt (if the moon is aligned properly and I've bought the correct flavor)
I'd like them to eat oatmeal, but they won't even touch the sugared down versions.  In the past bagels have been a good stand by, but we haven't had them in awhile.  So I got them yesterday and you would think I was force feeding them liver and onions this morning (and trust me, my mother forced fed me enough of that growing up!  No amount of catsup can mask that awful flavor)

So does anyone have some good, fast and healthy breakfast options I'm missing?  I'm tired of the same thing every morning.

Celebration

After waiting for 11 + years for this joyous time it is finally here.  Yesterday afternoon I was thinking about the fact it was a Friday evening and we actually had nothing planned.  It was payday so I was wanting to go do something.  Then it dawned on me that we have let Jessica babysit a few times and SHE could babysit and WE could go out for the evening.  HAPPY DAY!!!!  No kids, no calling around to find a babysitter at the last minute, only had to pay for 2 kids being babysat instead of 3.  Mark and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner (wanted to try the Chinese Buffet by our house and really liked the Mongolian BBQ) and then spent an hour wandering Pier 1 (trust me I could NEVER take John in there.  He is seriously a bull in a china store).  I must say I'm excited to be in this new stage of our lives!

Happy Halloween

We had such a fun Halloween this year.  LOVED the warm weather!  Now you might think this is what my girls did for Halloween
But that was for crazy hair day the day before.  Unfortunately John was too sick to go to school that day, so he did not get to participate.

But on Friday he did make it to school just in time for the end of his class party and the school parade.  He went as a Ninja, but his claustrophobia prevented him from wearing the hood, so we just put black paint on his face.

Jessica loved her Red Riding Hood cape.

And Ashley went to school as a which since she could not take her sword for her evening costume.

But I thought Jessica's teacher's costume was incredible.
And that evening we caught up with Kyleen at Mom's house and hit a few houses with her girls.

And since I was helping in Jessica's class I even dressed up this year.
Hope you all had a happy and safe Halloween.  Now it is time to focus on Thanksgiving.  Somehow I volunteered for hosting Mark's Family Party at our place.  We are still mapping out how we will sit 30 in our place.  The couch will definitely have to go to the garage.

Love Roses!

My sweet husband came home Thursday night with these in his hands . . .

He was so sweet.  Though he did wish me happy anniversary causing my mind to run through every event to figure out which anniversary I had forgotten.  He got me on that one.  He was really just bringing them home to tell me he loved me.  It made my week.  I am so grateful for such a wonderful and thoughtful husband.

Thank You!
